Module 2 Signals :: Wavelength and Bands

Bands

RF signals travel at the speed of light, which is about 300,000 km/sec or 186,000 mi/sec. The distance between crest of the wave is called its wavelength. The segments of the radio spectrum are refered to by bands.

Band Name Frequency Range Wavelength Range
LF Low Frequency 30 kHz to 300 kHz 10000 meters to 1000 meters
MF Medium Frequency 300 kHz to 3 MHz 1000 meters to 100 meters
HF High Frequency(shortwave) 3 MHz to 30 MHz 100 meters to 10 meters
VHF Very High Frequency 30 MHz to 300 MHz 10 meters to 1 meter
UHF Ultra High Frequency 300 MHz to 3 GHz 1 meter to 10 cm
SHF Super High Frequency 3 GHz to 30 GHz 10cm to 1cm
