  1. Have at least one buddy to work through book and practice with.
  2. Have a buddy like my two girls ready on two meter simplex 146.520 MHz

  3. Have a copy of the current Question Pool and the Graphics
  4. Have copy of the FCC rules
  5. Bookmark the "Ham Radio License Manual Support Page"
  6. Locate and join a local Amateur Radio Club and ARES/RACES Group

Buddy System

Having a study buddy helps in several ways
  1. Encouragement, there is a lot of questions to go through
  2. Math or other skill sharing
  3. Once you are license you will have someone to talk to that you know

Current Information

The Question Pools are update every four years. During that cycle FCC Rules can change and/or errors in the pool may be found. Check the ARRL Support Page , Rules Page and the Question Pool Page for updates. Also you can print sections of the Question Pool and mark them up for study instead of putting marks in the book.

Elmer

Joining a club and/or ARES group(or at least attending there meetings) can put you in touch with an experience ham who can mentor you. The term used in ham radio for a mentor is an elmer
